In the 1980s, some manufacturers of the automotive components and some famous research institutes started to develop the ceramic glow plugs for diesel engines. In the 1990s, large quantities of ceramic glow plugs have been used in Japan.

In the 2000s, the pollution caused by automobiles and the energy crisis have been focused by the world. So the ceramic glow plugs which are more environmental friendly, more energy saving, effectively, in the diesel engines of automobiles are widely used in the world.

Nowadays, the ceramic glow plugs have been commercially used. Le-Mark, NGK, Kyocera, Mitsubishi are the main manufacturers of CGP in the world. It is known that Bosch’s CGP has been under the researched and developed recently. In all these manufacturers of CGPs, only Le-Mark and Bosch have the all ceramic glow plugs, meanwhile, the CGPs of the other companies, like NGK、Kyocera、Mitsubishi, use the metal heating element covered by ceramic.
