A schedule has been made for diesel engine in China
(News from Xin Hua)

People often call the diesel vehicle of which the tail gas extremely terrible. Recently, the State Environmental Protection Administration of China publicized the policy for discharging pollution of diesel engine. The policy requires that the tail gas of diesel vehicle shall meet the discharging standard so as to solute the tail gas pollution radically.

Now, the discharging standard in China is corresponding to Standard 1 in Europe. The newly publicized policy, however, gives a schedule for the diesel vehicle to reach the new discharging standard. The new policy stipulates that the diesel vehicle in china shall meet the requirement of Europe Standard 2 about 2004 and meet the requirements of Europe Standard 3 in 2008. To 2010, the discharge pollution shall be controlled at the international level.

The vice-director of Technology Standard Department of State Environmental Protection Administration of China called Luo Yi. He said, comparing to gasoline vehicle, the diesel vehicle has advantages such as high-efficiency, low oil-waste, long service life and reliable driving. In 1930s, the diesel engine was gradually applied to the heavy vehicle and applied to light vehicle in 1950s. In 1990s, the diesel car had been rapidly developed. The diesel engine, comparing to gasoline engine, uses only 1/3 oil, and makes lower pollution. Now, the consumption of diesel car is 40% of the whole Europe car market. While in china, great development of diesel car was not made until 2000. In 2000, the total production of motor vehicle in China is 207,000 and the diesel vehicle is 61,000. In addition, the special farming vehicles in China are all diesel vehicle. In 2002, the total farming vehicle in China is 127,000, social holding is 1,900,000. Such a rapid development in diesel engine will unavoidably bring a great pollution to the environment.

The main component in the discharging gas of diesel engine is CO, hydrocarbon , Nitrogen-oxide, and particle pollutes. The later two components is the controlling emphasis.

The recent research shows that the Nitrogen-oxide discharged by diesel engine is 43% and particle pollutes are 83% of the total vehicle pollute.

Luo Yi said: “Although the serious air pollution is largely attributed to the large number of diesel vehicle, the radical factor is that the technology is backward. There has been a remarkable development in the technology of diesel engine all over the world. In countries in Europe , Standard 3 has been implemented early in 2000, while in china, the technology is still in 1970s".
